Version 1.0.0Effective 2025-03-01Last updated 2025-03-01
Overview
Anon Chat is built with privacy as a core principle. We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to operate the platform and do not require users to provide real names or personal identification.
This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it.
Data We Collect
Account data: If you create an account, we collect a username and an optional email address for account recovery only. No real name is required.
Content data: Posts (text, images, video), messages (text, images, video, audio, voice notes), and community activity that you generate on the platform.
Technical data: IP address (hashed and not stored in plain text), device type, operating system, and general browser or app version for the purpose of abuse prevention and platform stability.
Usage data: General interaction patterns such as rooms joined, communities visited, and features used. This data is aggregated and not linked to individual identities.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your real name, phone number, or government-issued identification.
We do not track your location beyond a general country-level region for compliance purposes.
We do not record voice or video space sessions.
We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.
How We Use Your Data
To operate and improve the platform, including delivering posts, messages, and real-time room functionality.
To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms and Conditions.
To process content expiration — posts are automatically deleted after the number of days specified by the user at time of posting.
To respond to legal requests from law enforcement where required by applicable law.
Content Expiration & Deletion
Community posts are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers once the expiration period chosen by the user has elapsed.
Messages in text rooms are subject to the retention policy of the specific room. Once deleted, messages cannot be recovered.
Media files (images, video, audio) associated with expired or deleted content are removed from our storage infrastructure within 24 hours of expiration.
Anonymity & Identity
Anon Chat is designed for anonymous use. Your posts and messages are not publicly linked to any personal identity.
While we strive to protect anonymity, we cannot guarantee complete anonymity. Metadata such as post timing and IP-derived region may in certain circumstances be used by third parties to identify users.
We strongly advise against sharing personally identifiable information in posts, messages, or rooms.
Real-Time Rooms & Communications
Text room messages are transmitted over encrypted connections. Messages are stored on our servers according to the room's retention policy.
Voice and video space transmissions are peer-assisted and are not recorded or stored by Anon Chat by default.
Audio messages and voice notes sent in text rooms are stored as media files and are subject to the same deletion policies as other media.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to any third party.
We may share limited technical data with trusted infrastructure providers (e.g. cloud hosting, CDN) solely for the purpose of operating the platform. These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements.
We may disclose data to law enforcement agencies where required by law, or to prevent imminent harm.
Data Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for all data in transit.
Sensitive identifiers such as IP addresses are hashed before storage.
While we implement robust security measures, no system is completely immune to breaches. We will notify users of any significant data breach as required by applicable law.
Children's Privacy
Anon Chat is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with data, we will delete it immediately. Please contact us at legal@anonchat.app to report such instances.
Your Rights
You have the right to request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
You may request a copy of the data we hold about you by contacting us at legal@anonchat.app.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
